Trump gives federal employees day off on Christmas Eve with executive order 🎅

President Trump is giving most federal employees Christmas Eve off this holiday season.

Trump issued an executive order Tuesday night that said “all executive departments and agencies of the Federal Government shall be closed and their employees excused from duty” on Dec. 24. He signed the same executive order last year.

The order will give an estimated 2.1 million executive branch workers the added time off.

Public safety employees, however, will be exempt as their federal offices will remain open “for reasons of national security, defense, or other public need,” the order said.

It’s not uncommon for presidents to give some time off around the holidays, but it typically occurs when Christmas lands closer to the weekend. This year, the holiday falls on a Wednesday.

The president’s order was issued the day before the House is set to vote on articles of impeachment against him.
