25 Feel Good Christmas Movies!

25 Days.

25 Movies.

Here’s a list to make sure you won’t miss a moment of Christmas spirit on the screen. Whether you’re old or young and enjoy new movie or classics, this list will guarantee nostalgia of childhood or sigh-worthy good tidings!

May contain spoilers!

1. ‘Santa Claus Is Coming to Town’

Seeing these pictures instantly brought me back to my childhood. Though I’ve not seen this classic in decades (cringing at my own age), I have only good vibes when remembering it. When a mailman, who is delivering letter to Santa, has a vehicle malfunction, he reveals the origin of Santa and how several Claus-related Christmas traditions came to be. This song-filled family film is a must see for those who enjoy quirky characters, and cheery messages about caring for others and sharing our gifts.

2. ‘Jingle All the Way’

Should’ve went Black Friday shopping…

Oh Arnold. He can play a muscly secret spy. He can play a cyborg. But by golly, I do enjoy him in cheesy comedies! This funny, family favorite is about a dad who promised to get his son the ultimate ‘coolest’ gift: Turbo Man. The only problem is, it’s Christmas Eve and the toy is practically sold out. Join him on his slap-your-knee comedic journey to fulfill his promise, while he also learns the true meaning of Christmas.

3. ‘The Year Without Santa Claus’

Discouraged from the growth of childrens’ greed, Santa claims to be too sick on Christmas to deliver any presents. Two elves named Jingle and Jangle, coaxed by Mrs Claus, set out on an adventure to deliver children to Santa, convincing him that true Christmas spirit is still important to everyone! This classic hold a strong message that many children and youths are overlooking these days.

4. ‘National Lampoon Christmas Vacation’

There’s just something about the Griswald family that makes me wish I was a part of them, and yet at the same time, so happy that I am not a part of them. I guess watching them from a far is enough! In this hilarious feel good film, Clark Griswald wants nothing more than to have his loving family enjoy a festively lit Christmas home, a tasty Christmas meal and for family to enjoy each other’s presence. Oh, can’t forget his bonus paycheck that he already spent in advanced. Watch and enjoy as some things don’t always happen as planned…

5. ‘The Polar Express’

This is the story of a young boy on the brink of no longer believing in Santa. When one morning, the polar express arrives on his doorstep. Deciding to board the train of Christmas adventure, he discovers the importance of helping others, building friendships and most of: believing in Christmas spirit. You’re going to want to drink hot chocolate at some point in time during this film.

6. ‘4 Christmases’

We’re all a little dysfunctional.

This slapstick comedy is about a couple visiting their four sets of families on Christmas. Each family more crazy than the next. With so many hilarious parts, it’s hard not to laugh at the dysfunction and turmoil. Of course it does end with a feel good feeling of the holiday. Vince and Reece make a great duo in this memorable, full of funny bits film.

7. ‘A Miser Brother’s Christmas’

This spin-off of The Year Without a Santa is about the Miser Brothers who are supposed to take over the duty of making a Christmas come true when Santas new delivery plane malfunctions. However, due to their rivalry, they distract each other to the point where there might not be a proper Christmas! Will they overcome their differences in time? There are some catchy tunes in this. I may or may not still be singing them.

8. ‘Fred Claus’

One can never watch too much Vince.

Troublemaker bigger brother Fred Claus, gets himself into a heap of criminal dilemmas and it’s up to his saintly brother Nick to bail him out. As a return of payment, Nick takes Fred to the North Pole to work off his debt by building toys and working in the workshop. Even more shenanigans start when Fred arrives, tiring from being in Nicks shadow all his life. However, an efficiency evaluator is arriving to judge the productivity of the work shop. Will Fred pull himself together in time to save the family business?

9. ‘Nightmare Before Christmas’

Christmas movie? Halloween movie?

Whether this is considered a Halloween movie, or a Christmas movie, it’s hard to deny that this is a true classic than can be enjoyed by all ages. When Jack Skellington gets tired of the same old thing on Halloween, he wearily wanders into the woods where he stumble upon the holiday trees. Fascinated by the look of a Christmas tree, he get swooped into he fascinating world of Christmas Town. Seeing all these new and shiny things, he has high hopes of what next Halloween could be like, however things don’t go as planned… Your best bet is to watch this film on Halloween AND Christmas. And then again during the spring. And summer. Just in case.

10. ‘Home Alone’

I always wanted him for a brother.

A full house of family members decide to go to Paris for Christmas. The only problem? They forgot Kevin! While the mom desperately tries to come back home, Kevin is living the fun life of a bachelor boy with no rules. Things take a challenging turn when two crooks try to break into the home. They are no match for Kevin, who boobytraps the house and won’t give his home up without a hilarious fight. Home Alone 2 is also just as great, being left alone in New York City! Home Alone 3… no comment.

11. ‘Frosty the Snowman’

As the song goes, a group of children build a snowman and place a top hat on his head. What they didn’t know, was that the hat was magic, making the snowman come alive! Full of songs and cheer the children enjoy their time with the snowman. But when the temperature starts rising, it’s up to a girl named Karen to help her magical friend!

12. ‘The Santa Clause’

Nothing better than a feel good 90s flick

A divorced father, Scott Calvin, tries to make Christmas special for his son, and yet somehow it’s not going as planned. On Christmas Eve, he scares someone off of his roof, Santa! Leaving his suit and an informative card behind, Santa disappears, making it Scott’s responsibility to take his place. Scott and his son travel to the North Pole and Scott quickly has to learn to live with his new responsibilities! The sequels Santa Clause 2 and Escape Clause and just as fun to watch!

13. ‘A Christmas Carol’

Grouchy, selfish miser, Ebenezer Scrooge, is awakened on Christmas Eve by spirits who reveal to him his own miserable existence, what opportunities he wasted in his youth, his current cruelties, and the terrible fate that awaits him if he does not change his ways. Scrooge is faced with his own story of growing bitterness and meanness, and must decide what his own future will hold: death or redemption. Though the story holds such strong meaning, it’s easily depicted and enjoyable to watch in this animated version.

14. ‘Christmas with the Kranks’

Please more Tim Allen always.

Instead of frivolous Christmas decorations and presents, this year the Kranks decide to spend their money on a cruise, since it would only be them for the holidays. However, chaos ensues when their overly holiday-friendly neighbors insist they take place in decorating so they do not lose the ‘best decorated street’ competition. To top things off, their daughter decides to come home for the holidays, leaving the Kranks only twelve hours to prepare an entire Christmas. Slapstick funny, full of golden moments.

15. ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’

Can we really tell a difference?

Whether you enjoy the animated version, or the live-action version, How the Grinch Stole Christmas is a staple during the holiday season. The Grinch lives atop a mountain overlooking Whoville and despising Christmas. He sets out to steal any and all things relating to Christmas, so that there cannot possibly be a Christmas, when he is made aware that Christmas is a feeling and comes from the heart. Jim Carey is the perfect Grinch!

16. ‘Elf’

“Good news! I saw a dog today!” “I’m a cotton-headed ninny-muggins.” “Can I listen to your necklace?” “Oh, I forgot to give you a hug.” “It’s just nice to meet another human that shares my affinity for elf culture.” “Francisco! That’s fun to say! Francisco. Frannncisco. Franciscooo.” “Hi I’m Buddy the Elf! What’s your favorite color?” “Have you seen these toilets? They’re GINORMOUS!” “Wow, you’re fast. I’m glad I caught up to you. I waited five hours for you. Why is your coat so big? So, good news—I saw a dog today. Have you seen a dog? You probably have. How was school? Was it fun? Did you get a lot of homework? Huh? Do you have any friends? Do you have a best friend? Does he have a big coat, too?” “I’m sorry I ruined your lives and crammed 11 cookies into the VCR.” “The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear.” “We elves try to stick to the four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corns, and syrup.” “Does somebody need a hug?”

17. ‘Charlie Brown Christmas’

Christmas lights may be twinkling red and green, but Charlie Brown has the Yuletide blues. To get in the holiday spirit, he takes Lucy’s advice and directs the Christmas play. And what’s a Christmas play without a Christmas tree? But everyone makes fun of the short, spindly nevergreen Charlie Brown brings back, until the real meaning of Christmas works its magic once again

18. ‘Miracle on 34th Street’

Things aren’t always as they seem.

An old friendly man by the name of Kris Kringle, fills in the Santa slot at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, when the other Santa appeared intoxicated and unable to perform. From there, he was so loved he became the mall Santa and everyone’s favorite. However, his claims of being the real Santa leads to a court case to determine his mental stability and his authenticity. But miracles do happen and this film will warm your hearts, like it did the first time you watched it.

19. ‘Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer’

Sometimes you just want to be a dentist.

Not fitting in with the reindeer, Rudolph sets out to find his purpose. He comes across a Christmas elf who no longer wants to make toys, but wants to be a dentist. The two outcasts travel to the island of misfit toys who don’t have a home for Christmas, escape an abominable snowman and end up having a fun filled adventure. Finally, Santa gives Rudolph the most important job of all! One of the best claymation films ever made!

20. ‘Jack Frost’ 1998

Hooray for second chances!

Band member first, father and husband second, Jack Frost never had time for his family. When he is killed in a car crash on Christmas Eve, he magically returns as a snowman a year later, after his son plays a tune on his old harmonica. Together, they make up for missed times and do everything a son and a snowman father could do together. As the temperature rises, they retreat to a cabin to keep Jack cold and alive. In the end, Jack is able to say goodbye to his family properly as a human, before returning to the afterlife. Seems sad, but it’s still a fun film.

21. ‘Jack Frost’ 1979

Jack Frost ushers in winter every year, but he is upset that he is unable to interact with humans, since they cannot see him. When he falls in love with the young woman Elisa, he requests to be made human. Father Winter agrees to make him human as long as he has a house, horse, bag of gold, and a wife by the beginning of spring. When Jack arrives in town and is introduced to Elisa and her family, he learns they are oppressed by a greedy Cossack, who has eyes on the peasants’ income and Elisa. And Jack must also contend with Elisa’s childhood sweetheart, Sir Ravenal. Will he decide to remain human in the end?

22. ‘A Christmas Story’

You’ll shoot your eye out!

This epic classic revolves around a boy who simply wants a Red Ryder BB Gun for Christmas. Until then, he endures his whiny brother, his hysterical mother, grumpy father, school bullies, scary Santa, terrible pjs and double dog dares. Through his perspective and exaggerated fantasies, you get to feel what kids felt during that time and this film quickly will rise to your favorites. Iconic and memorable.

23. ‘The Magic Snowflake’

When Santa decides to retire and go on vacation, he leaves his workshop to a creative toy inventor named Nick. Faced with many new responsibilities, Nick feels overwhelmed and starts exhibiting traits of being a grown up and becoming serious. Santa, who tries to get a job running an orphanage, let’s Nick in on a secret as to how he was able stay jolly for all these years. Great animation and colors!

24. ‘Beethoven’a Christmas Adventure’

When Santas toy bag gets stolen by crooks that run an overpriced toy store, its up to Beethoven and a Christmas elf to try and retrieve the bag in time for a Christmas! An overworked mother overlooked the shenanigans her teenaged son and the two get into, until she realizes Christmas is about family, not work. They all join together and make this family fun holiday film a joy to watch.

25. ‘Krampus’

He sees you when you’re sleeping. He knows when you’re awake.

No synopsis needed. You’ll thank me later parents. Muahaha! (This is considered a horror film though, so beware.)

This concludes my 25 days of Christmas. Sure, there are still other Christmas movies more directed for adults like Bad Santa, Love Actually and Scrooged that deserve an honorable mention. However I tried to stay true to the family fun feel of the list and I hope you have the chance to watch them.

Enjoyed this list Don’t forget to tip! Happy Holidays everyone!
